Design Communication

PROJECT 1

The project consisted of two parts,A and B.We were required to produce 4 sketches for each part to practise the different forms of sketching and rendering.Part A had us practising on site sketching, two indoor sketches and 2 outdoor sketches. While part B,required us to show four variations of sketching techniques based upon an object showing details and shadows.

The following are the sketches for Project 1A:

Indoors of  a Mosque

Indoors of a library

The following are the sketches for Project 1B:

Bracelet:Hatching

Bracelet:Cross Hatching

Bracelet:Stippling

Bracelet:Scribbling

Reflections:

The learning outcomes intended for these projects were to understand the notion of space as well as develop skills in visualising of space through observation of a given site, including the development of tonal value through sketching as a mode of communication.
Completing this assignment, helped me to understand spatial value in architecture. It enhanced my observational and documenting skills and also helped me improve my sketching and rendering techniques of hatching through various mediums.I learnt how to clearly present my work and data through drawings as a means of communication.
PROJECT 2
Project 2 was divided into three parts,A,B and C.In 2A,we were required to produce proper orthographic drawings and proper drawing conventions of the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies Van der Rohe.We were to produce a detailed floor plan,a site plan,4 elevations and 2 sections, all at a scale of 1:100.Project 2B,required us to produce an axonometric drawing of the same building. For 2C,we produced 2 perspective drawings of the pavilion,a two point perspective and a one point sectional perspective respectively.
The following are the images of the Project

Reflections:
The learning outcomes intended were to demonstrate drafting skills,in architectural drawings and to present clear, legible architectural information manually. To apply architectural conventions and symbols. To express spatial ideas in terms of an axonometric projection.
Undergoing this task enabled me to apply architectural conventions into my work.It allowed me to exhibit my skills in different architectural drawings and demonstrate my understanding of line types, weight, quality as well as hand lettering. My ability to express architectural detail in 3 dimension in axonometric projection has improved and how to generate perspective drawings in  the design process and presentation has become more clearer.
