Introduction Project 1  explores the environmental poetics of a structure that respond to the basic natural context such as the sun, wind, heat, cold, energy issue, and the existing context. Students are required to design a small space within an open area applying ideas of environmental sustainability in architectural design. The structure should provide both a shelter and suitable environment for users. Project brief The green info-shelter to be based on the following requirements: 1) Volume 3m x 3m x 3m 2) To serve the main purpose of providing info on events and activities in CODA & SABD 3) To provide shelter for students waiting for pick up (5 max) 4) Minimal area for storage/ services There is no restriction on structure design or materials to used nor budget constraints other than the unit shall be practical, useful and manageable in terms of its operations and upkeep. The work must respond to the features of a project which commensurate and meet with t...

PROJECT 1 GROUP TASK Case Study: Identifying innovative passive design strategies  Choose a building that best features a passive design strategy for tropical climate. We had to select one building in Kuala Lumpur and one building in Singapore. The report was based on the following, Have a thorough research on the passive design strategies, the principles and details needed for these passive design strategies to perform best in tropical climate and to achieve thermal comfort in this building/space. Identify two (2) passive design strategies used for each building. Identify an instrument /equipment or software/interview/survey to aid in proving that the passive design strategy is effective in this building. Analyze the monitored temperatures, looking at the effects of solar radiation, thermal mass, insulation, and ventilation. Explanation on how the thermal environment of your case study is affected from natural and man-made factors. Paper format : a. Building In...

PROJECT 1 Understanding Forces in Skeletal Structure TASK Construct model of a tower according to the following specifications. • Materials for model: Popsicle stick, toothpick, thread, pins and a base (A5 size) • NO GLUE or any adhesive material allowed. • Height of the tower model should BE MORE THAN 30 CM, measured from the base and the top. The top of the tower should be able to support a flat cardboard to place the load. • Popsicle sticks used MUST NOT EXCEED MORE THAN 100 PIECES. Toothpick can be used as a connector/part of the structure but not as the main structure. • The completed model will be tested from the minimal load (1.25kg) up to maximum load that it could withstand up to 2 minutes applied at the top of the tower structure. • Tower SHOULD NOT BE OVERLY DESIGN and must conform to the design criteria. • Analysis on the success or failure of the tower together with the justifying measures in the case of failure is to be provided in the form of an A3 bound...

PROJECT 1: Journey for the 5 senses GROUP TASK Project 1 consists of 2 main tasks as described below: 1a          PRECEDENT STUDIES: Analysing spatial poetics & spatial typologies in architecture As part of this, the objective of Project 1a is to identify and analyze spatial order and spatial poetics through precedent studies. The main aim is to analyse 2 selected architectural precedents. Each group of students is to analyse the spatial poetics & spatial typology of the selected precedents. The analysis of the design approaches will inform the preceding design projects for the remaining semester. Thus, the selection of precedents should be critical and inspirational. Tasks In groups of 4-5 students, select 2 precedents for analysis. It could be local, national and/or international examples. One precedent must be PRE-MODERN MOVEMENT, and one precedent must be CONTEMPORARY. Also, one precedent must be LINEAR, and the other CONC...
